Medical Coding is the conversion of a patient's healthcare diagnosis, prescriptions, treatment received, equipment used, and other procedures into alphanumeric codes. These codes are used in medical billing purpose too. These codes derived after medical coding purpose are billed to insurance companies so as to claim insurance on payment purpose. These codes must be so accurate as they make up the whole payment purpose.
Medical Coders use set of previously assigned codes for coding purpose. These codes contains ICD, CPT and HCPCS. The International Classification of Diseases or ICD codes are set of designed codes set by World Health Organisation (WHO). These are set of diagnostic codes. For instance ICD code, J18.2 denotes hypostatic pneumonia.
