MEDICAL CODING
Medical Coding is the transformation of healthcare diagnosis, procedures, medical services and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes. Their main is to analyse clinical statements and assign standard codes using a classification system.
There are generally three types of universally known medical alphanumeric codes, ICD, CPT, HCPCS. International Classification of Diseases is created and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO) The classification system is largely used for the purpose of health recording and data collection among other uses. These codes can classify symptoms, diseases, illness and cause of death. For example ICD code Q61.4 denotes Renal dysplasia.
Kidney dysplasia is a condition in which the internal structures of on or both of a fetus kidney's do not develop normally while in the womb. During normal development two thin tubes of muscle called ureters grow into the kidneys and branch out to form a network of tiny structures called tubules.
There are no treatments for kidney dysplasia except in cases where the good kidney begins to fail and a kidney transplant or dialysis is recommended. This is usually only considered when the kidney causes pain, results in high blood pressure or shows abnormal changes when scanned by ultrasound.- Transcribing patient information into appropriate medical codes
