MEDICAL CODING.
Medical Coding is the transformation of a patient's healthcare procedure, diagnosis, prescription, treatment received, equipment used and more by a healthcare professional or a doctor into universally alphanumeric codes. These codes are used for billing purpose as they are used to make up for the payment purpose.
Medical Coders use a set of assigned codes including ICD, CPT and HCPCS. ICD codes are diagnostic codes assigned and managed by World Health Organisation (WHO). These codes are unique alphanumeric codes which consist of a patient's signs, symptoms or any other abnormal findings. For instance, ICD Code G72.9 denotes myopathy.
Myopathy is a general term for a group of muscle diseases that cause weakness, stiffness and wasting of the muscles. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetic disorders, infections, metabolic disorders, autoimmune diseases, muscle trauma and medications. Symptoms of myopathy can include muscle weakness, cramping, stiffness, twitching, difficulty breathing, fatigue, and pain. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause, but may include physical therapy, medications, lifestyle changes and dietary modifications.
